Resetting the brake light on a BMW X3 is made simple by: Do not start the engine after turning the ignition to the on position. Wait 30 seconds before opening the driver’s side door. Wait another 30 seconds after switching the ignition to the off position. start the vehicle.
You will need to set the time and date which will be lost during the reset. Then take the vehicle for a short drive to see if any additional 4x4 lights will reset once the system detects road speed. If it clears then you will be good until the system detects the problem again.
Once you've opened up the parking brake screen and without using the brake pedal or parking brake, tap the Activate option. Once started, it'll put the car into diagnostic mode, start retracting the parking brake motor for 10-15 seconds, and will tell you once completed. Mine likes to say it failed, but it still worked.

How to reset the "Check Engine Soon" light in a 2006 BMW x3. Tried removing the battery cables, touching them together for a 15-20 second period as per a "THis works on ALL BMWs" video on YouTube.
